AI Impacting Job Opportunities for College Students

AI is increasingly being part of our lives and impacting us in numerous ways. A popular topic of discussion regarding AI is its impact on the job market. This affects college graduates the most since they are entering the job market fully for the first time. However, the impact of AI on the job market heavily depends on the field of work.
Manual labor jobs or blue-collar work are the most unaffected by AI because AI currently is
incapable of physical labor on a large scale. However, many other jobs are not as safe from AI taking them over. Jobs such as business, mathematics, computers, and similar fields are in jeopardy as AI gets more advanced.
These fields being increasingly impacted by AI highly affects college graduates who have studied to be a part of these jobs. One example is if a math major is studying to become a data analyst, then that job may be taken by AI.

Worry about the impact of AI on jobs is increasingly more common which led to the Pew
Research Center discovering 71 percent of adults believe that AI will result in fewer jobs in the United States.
One student interviewed said, “I was thinking of working in a museum, but with museums having sometimes voiceovers, AI could take that job.”
Another student interviewed said, “I want to be a professor, but I don’t really think AI will take that job.”
Even among college students here the issue has students divided. However, AI is still developing and there are still other fields that are not as affected. Overall, though, students across the country still remain worried that AI will impact their jobs.
