Dean College Wins GNAC Field Hockey Championship on Home Turf

History was made on Saturday afternoon at Grant Field as the Dean College Bulldogs captured their first-ever GNAC Field Hockey Championship over Colby-Sawyer Chargers. 

 

Playing in front of a packed home crowd, the Bulldogs defeating the Chargers 3-1.  

 

Dean came at Colby right out of the gate shooting five in the first quarter. And then 13:48 into the game Emma Gragen scored the first goal for the Bulldogs making the score 1-0.

 

The Bulldogs then added insurance in the 2nd quarter when Sydnee Ramos scored, making it 2-0.  At the end of the first half Dean had twelve shots over Colby-Sawyer's four.  

 

Colby-Sawyer scored their first and only game in the 3rd quarter. Zoe Dries was able to find the net to make it 2-1. The Chargers continued to battle and then hit a penalty. Emily Yazzetti knocked it in, adding extra cushion to make the lead 3-1.

As the final horn sounded, the Bulldogs sideline sprinted to the field celebrating the program's first championship in front of the home crowd. 

 

This victory caps off an amazing season for Dean as it was not only the team's first championship but the first time in program history that they have ever beaten the Chargers.


With this win Dean will have to wait and see who they will face in the NCAA Division III bracket which will be announced on Sunday.
