At Dean College, the Student Government Association (SGA) is the voice of the students. The association is bridging a gap between administration and the student body to make the Dean campus more inclusive and connected.

Assistant Director for Student Activities and Leadership and advisor for SGA, Kathryn Huntress, says that “as an association, our responsibilities include organising events, supporting student organisations, and ensuring that all students feel heard and involved in shaping their college experience.”

The Student Government Association, like any club on campus, have an executive board that was voted on by the student body. The e-board’s responsibilities are to lead the senators, organise events, and have regular meetings with senior management to relay the concerns and suggestions from the senators to create meaningful change.

One of the strengths of this year’s SGA e-board is that the members are all involved in a variety of Dean’s communities. The board brings together different perspectives and experiences, allowing SGA to plan events and initiatives that appeal to a wider range of students.

The President of SGA, Paige Langston, a musical theater major, says that her main goal is “promoting school spirit” and “increasing the number of students attending events and being in organisations.” Langston is entering her second term as President of SGA and is well-versed in the responsibilities the position entails.

She says, “Before I became president, SGA wasn’t a big presence at Dean, and a lot of students weren't aware we had a student government or what we did. I was very proud that we created an awareness of SGA and were able to start working towards changing students’ needs.”

Hannah Pogemiller, an arts and entertainment management and acting double major, is the Vice President of Finance this year. As president of the theater group, The Guild, Pogemiller is passionate about supporting student organisations and ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed. She says her main goal is to “give students the chance to create their own projects, subsequently allowing for more events and community-building opportunities.”

Alexa Gerow, criminal justice major and member of the women’s soccer team, is the Vice President of Involvement. Her main goal this year in SGA is to “bring back student life to campus, and “bring more weekend events to keep students involved.” As a student-athlete herself, Gerow wants to help bridge the gap between the student body and athletics, involving more events and activities on athletics game days.

Miro McIntyre Clere, a communications major and member of the women’s soccer team, is Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Her aim for this year is to make marketing for events and organisations more eye-catching and unique.

The Dean student body voted for each year group to have a senator for SGA that will relay feedback from their peers, discuss ways to make improvements on campus, and serve on campus committees.

This year, the senior senators are Aiden Day and Mikayla Wray; juniors Madison LeBorgne and Stephanie Stanton; sophomores Brooke Montalvo and Dillian Kelly; and first-year senators Carter/Alexios Gileau and Frankie Caro.

The SGA e-board has office hours, which are open to anyone for questions, concerns, or suggestions.
