On Monday, Dean College hosted its annual media day event for the men’s and
women’s basketball teams, and what a great opportunity it was for our Bulldogs to express
their excitement about the upcoming season.
Two former transfer students brought the energy and passion to the press
conference: Azaria Landry and Jordan Ellis. Landry played 16 games last season, recording
247 points, 43 steals, and averaging 33 minutes per game. As for Ellis, she appeared in 11
games last season, scoring 47 points and tallying 5 assists. Both women are heading into
their junior campaign.
This season, it’s all about keeping teammates close to one another and building that
special bond on and off the court. Landry, one of the locker room leaders, stated, “We
should work together more and hold ourselves to a high expectation, whether it’s during
practice or during games.” As for Ellis, she couldn’t be more thrilled about returning to
Dean, and she explained the process of how nice it feels to stay in a locker room you’re
already familiar with. “You have that sense of home…being here, I definitely feel more
comfortable around my teammates…it’s all about being able to stay together and
supporting your teammates.”
Both women also highly praised second-year Head Coach, Megan Dixon, and the
hard work she has put into improving this young Bulldogs squad. Ellis calls her teammates
“positive and encouraging,” which stems from the type of culture Coach Dixon hopes to
build. Landry followed up, “Coach [Dixon] helped me push to become more of a leader, and
now I view myself more confidently. She’s always pushing to see the best in myself.”
Tip-off for Dean College women’s basketball takes place this Saturday at the Pieri
Gymnasium against Nichols College at 12:00 PM. The Bulldogs' first three games of the
season are at home.
