On Saturday night, the Dean College Men’s Basketball got back into the win column with a 91–76 victory over the Anna Maria College AMCATS during the Tunnel to Towers nights at Pieri Gymnasium. Dean improved to 3–2 and Anna Maria fell to 1–4.
Dean jumped out to a 38–27 lead at the end of the first half and then sealed the deal in the second half outscoring Anna Maria 53–49. Key players for Dean included senior Christian Yeates, who scored 28 points on 8–11 shooting, including 2–3 from three, and grabbed 8 rebounds in only 23 minutes. Freshman forward Naser Motley added 12 points. Randy Vasquez had 14 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
When asked about his performance, Christian said, "It’s simple, I am just going hard every possession, offensively and defensively. Play every play like it’s my last and let God take care of this rest."
Dean shot 31–60 (51.7%) from the field while also shooting 5–13 (38.5%) from three and 24–37 (64.9%) at the free throw line. Anna Maria shot 26–59 (44.1%) and struggled from 3 shooting 3–14 (21.4%).
The Bulldogs’ offense and quick hands on the defensive end was too much for the AMCATS. The Bulldogs are back in action on the road against the University of New England on Tuesday for their last game before the thanksgiving break.
When asked about the inexperience of road games this season, Senior Randy Vazquez says, “Honestly it comes down to our amazing coaching staff and their ability to generate an in-depth scouting report that makes our jobs easier during the game. Combine that with an overall drive to be the best team we can be and our passion to make each other better every day, we are confident in our ability to take on anybody on the road.”
The Bulldogs are looking to enter the Thanksgiving break with a record of 4-2 and a record of 1-1 on the road.
