Bulldogs Fall to Lancers 56-12 on Homecoming & Alumni Reunion Weekend

Dean College Football hosted their annual Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Weekend game on Saturday. A MASCAC Duel with the Lancers of Worcester State University spoiled the Bulldogs homecoming 56-12.
Both teams came in on a loss last weekend looking to get back in the winning column; however, it was the Lancers who opened the scoring early. Worcester Quarterback MJ Bakaysa got going early with a deep ball to his receiver Jack Poirier for a 57-yard touchdown on their opening play from scrimmage.
Now finding themselves in a hole early, the Dean offense would quickly get to work. A seven-play drive ended in no other than Tay Sholtz finding the back of the endzone on a beautifully placed ball from his quarterback Chris Donohue, tying the game at 6 a piece.
Already utilizing Sholtz who Bulldogs Head Coach Luke Bakanowsky believes is the best receiver in the MASCAC, stating, "I selfishly think Tay Sholtz is the best receiver in the conference," he also added. "I think Tay can play outside, slot, in the backfield. His versatility is real unique, so we're going to do some different stuff with him this week."

In this one, Sholtz was isolated as the outside receiver, showcasing his speed and playmaking abilities. Typically, this role is for the 6'4 Senior Captain Da'Qwon Foster.
Two plays later, the Lancers found the endzone again, this time on the ground with Gavin Hatfield striking from 57 yards out to make it 13-6 Worcester.
A turnover on downs from the Dean offense would give the Lancers the ball back, and they would score again. Once again, going to the running back Hatfield to extend the lead 20-6.
Now in the second quarter, the Bulldogs offense would stall out on three-straight drives while the Lancers would score three-straight touchdowns. The third in a row being Hatfield again for his third touchdown and the hat trick in the first half, making it a 40-6 Lancer lead at the half.

The Bulldog offense would come back to life on their first drive of the second half. As it was quarterback J'Shaun Reddin who found his wideout, Da'Qwon Foster, who mossed a Lancer defender for the 16-yard touchdown to cut into the Worcester lead and make it 40-12.
Back-to-back punts from both sides would send it to the fourth quarter with the Bulldogs down 28 on Homecoming weekend.
Worcester's offense would tack on two more touchdowns and an eventual safety on a blocked punt. This one would end in a Lancer victory as they defeated the Bulldogs 56-12.
Dean falls to 1-6 on the season while Worcester State moves to .500 with a 4-4 record now on the season.
Dean Football will be back in action on Halloween as they hit the road to take on UMass Dartmouth. However, there is just one game left in Franklin, that being senior day on November 7th when Framingham State comes to town. 13 seniors will be honored on senior day, and both upcoming games are set for a noon kickoff time.
