Fresh off clinching home field advantage for the 2025 GNAC playoffs, Dean
College field hockey celebrated another milestone for the growing program,
a 2-1 senior day victory, that ended with Katrina Lee’s double-overtime
dagger.
Goalkeeper, Allie Stockwell, defender, Emma Mock, and forward,
Sydnee Ramos were honored before Saturday’s contest against 10-4 New
England College, each receiving their respective applause from the Dean
faithful. When talking to Head Coach, Megan Gutierrez, about this year’s
senior class, she couldn’t have been happier about the growth on and off
the field from her players, “It’s a bittersweet moment for me, as this is my
first graduation class. I’m proud of the hard work we’ve put on display, and
the way we’ve rallied around each other.” Gutierrez has been the Bulldogs
head coach since 2022 and will bring the Bulldogs to the GNAC postseason for
their second straight season.
The first quarter was filled with defense on both sides, with the
Bulldogs recording the first 2 shots of the game. The second quarter
featured the best scoring chance for either team in the first half, Allie
Stockwell making a quick pad save on Pilgrams forward, Kylee Henriquez.
Both teams came into Saturday with a 7-1 record vs GNAC play, and it
showed in the first half, with both defenses standing tall and the game
remaining scoreless.
The third quarter started off with a bang! Less than 4 minutes into the
second half, forward, Emma Gragen pounced on the rebound in front of
New England’s goalkeeper and capitalized for the first goal of the match.
No sophomore slump here, as Gragen continues her strong 2025
campaign with her 9th goal, and 20th point on the season. As Coach
Gutierrez normally does, she swapped goalkeepers heading into the
second half. Sara Gardner was tested early against Pilgram defender, Neila
Jones, making a kick save before Dean’s defense cleared the ball from
their zone.
In the last period of play, the chippiness and intensity grew, and a
hungry Pilgrams team trailing by one, was able to crash the Bulldogs net
and capitalize on a rebound. Forward, Kacey McClay, evened the score 1-1,
forcing overtime. Extra time would need 11 minutes to decide a winner, and
the Bulldogs would capitalize on a two on one fastbreak for the win.
Sydnee Ramos, on her senior day, delivered a back-door pass to Katrina
Lee for the game winning goal, and the Bulldogs 2-1 victory. A euphoric
Bulldogs bench mobbed Ramos and Lee, as the Bulldogs win their 12th
game of the season and improve to 8-1 against GNAC opponents this
season.
Dean College has two games remaining before the GNAC
postseason starts on November 1. They will be in action next against Simmons
College on the road next Friday at 5:00 PM EST.
