Men's Soccer Draws with Norwich in GNAC Matchup
Dean College and Norwich University played to a 0-0 draw in a rescheduled men's soccer match at Longley Field on Monday. Noah Amaral and a determined Bulldogs back line made sure Norwich didn't get on the board.
The first half belonged to Norwich in terms of possession and shots, with the visitors firing off
eight attempts. Daniel Hennessey rattled the crossbar in the thirty-third minute, and Amaral came up with a save on Jacob Paro just before the break to keep it scoreless. Dean had its moments too. Shawn Kalunga put a shot wide off a corner from Nate Beturne in the twenty-third minute, and Victor Nunez Saravia forced a save from Norwich goalie Victor Kalorin in the thirty-second minute.

Norwich kept coming in the second half, and Amaral kept answering. He stopped Shea Perkins in the fiftieth minute and again in the seventieth. Then came a wild stretch late in the game, when Amaral made three saves in under a minute and a half, denying Miles Bergeson and Perkins in the seventy-fifth minute and Ben Rubinstein in the seventy-seventh.
With the game being a bit chippy, Dean pushed back with a Kalunga header off another Beturne corner in the fifty-sixth minute and a Beturne shot in the eighty-third. Norwich finished with 17 shots to Dean's five, but the Bulldogs refused to break, Ethan Zigler picked up a yellow card in the eighty-third minute as the game got more physical down the stretch.
Amaral had an amazing game with six saves and a clean sheet. Ciaran Phibbs and Zigler
anchored a back line that never gave in, and Austin Clark, John Payne and Ryan Cabral each
played the full 90 minutes in the midfield battle.
Head Coach Joe Dincecco liked what he saw from his group. "We're showing growth and
improvement game by game," said Dincecco.
Cabral, who had an outstanding defensive game playing right back for the Bulldogs, felt the
Bulldogs left something on the table. "We could've beat them, we just weren't clinical enough," said Cabral.
Dean College looks to build on the clean sheet when it returns to action on this Wednesday, October 7th away in Salem, MA at 7pm for a matchup against Salem State University.
