Space + Sports, two worlds collide for an adventurous show. Tune into Dean College’s own Maximilian Kent as the second episode of Countdown to Launch features the best of both worlds and will be premiered during the holiday season on YouTube.

Countdown to Launch is a news-media project created by Maximilian to excite Dean students and young adults about space in creative and engaging ways. This project began last Spring during the Dean College Film Festival, when Maximillian produced the first episode of Countdown to Launch, The Space Between Eras.

The film inspired him to turn the idea into a full series, and on October 2nd the official start of his new series Countdown to Launch had begun. So far, the response has been fantastic with already over 275 views on YouTube.

The series will continue with each episode featuring a different style and format. The next one, titled Space League Draft. I got the opportunity to speak with Maximillian about the second episode, and Maximillian said “It is a sports-broadcast parody of space news. In it, three “SpaceCenter” hosts (a parody of SportsCenter) give a play-by-play rundown of the latest developments in the space industry”.

This exciting new way of conveying space news is something Maximilian is looking forward to. Maximillian also added “I’m looking forward to continuing to collaborate with Dean College students to keep the project at a high level of quality”.

The Dean Daily got to speak with fellow Dean student Brady Fontaine about Countdown to Launch and the upcoming episode, Space League Draft, and what would get him (a sports broadcasting major) to tune into something space related. When asked Brady first if he was interested in space. Brady’s answer was straight forward he said, “Not really”. Following up, Brady was asked what his thoughts would be on a space show that incorporated sports into the show. Brady’s response was much different than before stating “That sounds pretty interesting, and I definitely would check that out”.

It seems as if Dean students would like to see a space and sports collaboration.

Tune into Maximilian’s second episode of Countdown to Launch, Space League Draft, will premiere during the holiday season on the YouTube channel Overture Entertainment.

Countdown to Launch is an Overture Entertainment production in partnership of The Dean Daily and support of Dean College.
