The United States midterm elections are around the corner, and most signs point to a blue wave. However, while unlikely, an upset could happen in which Republicans keep control of Congress. This would require the Republicans to win the most seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. With this outcome, governmental policy would not likely change in any drastic way.

If the Republicans do win, they would likely become more hawkish, putting forth more controversial bills, requesting similar funding for the Iran war, and keeping many other policies place. The Democrats optics and responses would be reinvigorated. This could charge them up for a decisive win in 2028 both for president and congress. This is because in recent years, the party that is repressed in governance for a longer period of time has a larger win in the following election.

Overall, a Republican win for congressional control seems unlikely based on current polling and predictions. However, if a Republican win were to happen, likely policy would not change much. Rather, the policy would likely solidify its position on items such as more funding for the Iran war, and the passing of more Republican-endorsed bills. However, if the Republicans do win the midterms, it could also further charge up the Democrats for a decisive win in 2028 both presidentially as well as congressionally.
