For the second year in a row, The Dean Daily will be attending and covering the Fenway Bowl.
This year will be a matchup between the UConn Huskies (9-3) and the Army Black Knights (6-6). UConn is also returning to the Fenway Bowl for the second straight year, looking to win two in a row after their 27-14 victory over North Carolina in 2024.
UConn will be without their starting quarterback, Joe Fagnano, who opted out of this particular bowl game. They will also be without their former head coach, Jim Mora, who accepted a job at Colorado State University and is not finishing out the season with the Huskies.
Despite these losses, UConn will still have their standout wide receiver, Skyler Bell, who racked up more than 1,200 yards and 100 receptions throughout the regular season. Bell got national attention for his efforts this season and was recognized as a Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the nation’s best wide receiver. He also received an invite to the Senior Bowl, which showcases the top prospects in college football.
UConn will look to reach ten wins on the season for the first time since 1998 but have never reached that mark while being in the FBS.
Army, on the other hand, most recently played in the annual Army-Navy game and lost 17-16. On the year of Army’s 250th birthday, they will be playing at the Fenway Bowl for the first time in their program’s history.
Army’s quarterback, Cale Hellums, leads the team in rushing yards at 1,178. He also notched 16 rushing touchdowns, accounting for a big portion of Army’s offense. Army is seeking a third bowl win in a row with this game after beating Louisiana Tech last year in the Independence Bowl.
The last two matchups between these teams were both home games for Army in 2021 and 2022. The Black Knights won both of these games.
The Fenway Bowl takes place on December 27th at 2:15 PM with a media day on the 26th. There will be coverage from The Dean Daily of both events.
