Dean Women’s Volleyball was in action on Wednesday night as they hosted a conference rival in the University of Saint Joseph’s Connecticut.

It was the Bluejays who ultimately walked away victorious in a 4-set match winning 3-1 over the Bulldogs.

They got off to a fast start on the road taking the first two sets quickly from the Bulldogs, 25-12 in set 1 and 25-17 in set 2.

However, Dean was able to build off the positives from those first two sets, that being the upfront presence duo of Chloe Demaio and Ali Murphy who both came into the match ranked top 10 in the GNAC in solo blocks.

Set 3 was a completely different story than before. Dean would take set 3 from the Bluejays and extended the match to at least a fourth set for just the fourth time this season.

In that third set the Bulldogs took down the Bluejays 25-20 in a back-and-forth battle. However, it was the Junior Maddy Seymour for Dean who really lit a fire under her squad.

Seymour recorded the first three points of set 3 for the Bulldogs, first with a ferocious kill and then with back-to-back service aces as she was able to find the holes in the Bluejay defense with ease.

Once the two sides were tied at 20 a piece in set three that was when the Bulldogs took over. With five straight points to close out the set and extending the match, Senior Olivia Mackinnon led the way with back-to-back service aces in that run.

Entering set number four, both teams had lots of energy. It started to get competitive, going back and forth on the scoreboard. However, in the end the Bluejays attack was too powerful, and they pulled away with the victory. They went on a 9-0 and 4-0 run late to cap off a monster conference win for USJ who took set four 25-9.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-18 on the season and 1-7 in conference play. As for the Bluejays they moved to 9-11, and 3-5 in conference play.

With 8 games still left remaining on the schedule for the Bulldogs, there is still plenty of time to chalk up some more wins before the season closes on November 5th.

Dean Women’s Volleyball is back on their home court on Thursday, October 22nd, when non-conference Bay Path University comes to town for a 6 PM start.
