After a heroic 3-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer this past Saturday, the Dean
College Bulldogs field hockey team has clinched a spot in the NCAA field hockey
tournament for the first time in program history. In the first round of the tournament, the
Bulldogs will go against the Tufts University Jumbos this Wednesday at 5:00 PM EST.
Dean clinched the one seed in the GNAC, and hosted three playoff games,
outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 10-4 over that span. Their most
thrilling victory came in the second round of the tournament against fourth-seeded New
England College, a 1-0 nail-biter that ended with a goal by Emily Kilpatrick, sending
Dean to the GNAC championship game for the first time in school history. As for Tufts,
they made the second round of the NESCAC tournament; their first game was a 3-2
thriller over Amherst College, with Reagan Malo scoring the game-winning goal at the
86th minute. However, #7 Wesleyan University would eliminate Tufts after a
two-goal second quarter, winning 2-0.
Dean field hockey watched the NCAA selection show this past Sunday as a
team, and when their matchup was announced, the team cheered in unison, and a
thunderous ovation followed. Dean has advanced to the NCAA tournament and will face
Tufts on the road, their toughest opponent to date. Dean comes in with a 16-7 record,
and Tufts with a favorable 14-3 record. But don’t let the records tell the whole story: the
Bulldogs have won 9 of their last 10 games and recorded three shutouts over this span.
This Bulldogs group has been led by Senior, Sydnee Ramos, and Sophomore, Emily
Yazzetti, who both scored career highs in points this season, well over the 60-point
plateau.
The opening draw for this first round of the NCAA tournament will take place this
Wednesday at 5:00 PM EST at Ounjian Field in Medford, MA.
