On November 1st, 2025, Dean College held a fun and spooky event called the Horror Short Film Night. It was run by the theater students and only open to them. The event started around 7 p.m. and ended around 9 p.m. in Room 16 of the Science Building basement.

On the second floor of the same building, the theater students also set up a haunted house, which a lot of people went through before the movies started. There was a little mix-up with Sodexo and SALD about the food, but Professor Greg Seibert saved the day by bringing snacks, water, and juice boxes for everyone.

After everyone finished the haunted house and got their seats, four short films were played. The movies were all different lengths 20, 15, 10, and 2 minutes long. If you wanted to have your movie shown, you had to talk to Sarah Bognar, who was in charge of the whole event.

I got the chance to talk to Josiah Flynn, who worked on a film called Woodshop. He said, “I enjoyed the films, but I was too scared to go in the haunted house. I was also at the festival because I got credit for being there, and I wanted to support Sophie Hunter’s film, Woodshop. I helped her edit the movie and do the sound for it.”

The night went really well and showed off how creative and talented Dean’s theater students are.

Next semester, around April 2026, the Communications Department will be hosting a Short Film Festival that’s open to everyone. There will be lots of videos, more food and drinks, and even some awards. You don’t need to turn in a script or any planning documents just make your video and give it to Professor Greg Seibert. You only get to submit one video, so make it your best!
