BOSTON – Leading up to their game on Tuesday night, the Bulldogs were 0-6 and had never won a game in overtime.
The Dean College Men’s Lacrosse team broke the curse with a 15-14 overtime win over the Emmanuel College Saints at Roberto Clemente Field.
After their overtime loss in the playoffs last year on the same field, the Bulldogs needed a new look. And they got it through freshman Marc Sauchuk who scored three goals including the overtime winner. Sauchuk carried the ball into the bottom right corner and drove towards the crease. He powered through his defender and fired a shot past the goalie’s left shoulder into the top right corner.
However, it all wasn’t easy going for Dean. After Nick Fernandez drew first blood, the Saints rallied off five straight goals to win the first quarter 5-1.
The second quarter saw both teams trading scores. Connor McCarthy got the Bulldogs rolling finishing in close off a feed from Jimmy Erikson and Fernandez buried his second of the game only a minute later, assisted by Manny Alvarez-Segee.

Emmanuel reinforced their lead with a couple goals of their own.
Gavin McCarthy, Sauchuk, Fernandez, and Alvarez-Segee, all contributed tallies to close the gap to just one. The Saints took an 8-7 lead in the break.
The second half began, and Alvarez-Segee caught fire. He rattled off three straight unassisted goals, matching the Saints two, tying the game at 10-10.
An 11th Emmanuel goal was once again canceled out after Sauchuk slashed is way between the Saints defenders and scored a bounce shot into the roof of the net.

The fourth quarter played out similarly to the previous two, with both teams scoring at will. Fernandez, Alvarez-Segee, and Connor McCarthy were the goalscorers for the Bulldogs, with McCarthy’s goal tying the game with only 1:30 left on the clock. Ultimately sending the game to OT.
Extra time began and Emmanuel won the initial draw, advanced the ball, and called a timeout. The following play was thwarted by defenseman Kyle Kaelin who earned a caused turnover, which led to a successful clear and Dean took a timeout of their own. What ensued next was a barrage of Bulldog shots before Sauchuk’s eventual game winner.
The win not only boosts Dean to a 7-5 record but also extends their win streak to five wins in a row. They will play host to the Albertus Magnus Falcons Wednesday on Grant Field at 3pm.
