Dean Field Hockey's Season Comes to an End with Semifinal Loss to Simmons
Updated: 3 hours ago
BOSTON, Mass. – The Dean College Field Hockey team’s season ends after a 4-1 loss to Simmons in the GNAC Semifinals Wednesday night. After last season’s triumphant run, the Bulldogs came close to taking home another GNAC title.
The first quarter saw both teams staying strong, playing very competitive defense. Simmons scored in the last two minutes of the first quarter. Dean Goalie Sara Gardner made a great save off a slap shot to end the 1st quarter, scoreless after one.
The second quarter saw Dean showing pressure defensively on Simmons. Defensively, Dean was drawing turnovers on the Simmons attack.
With just about 5 minutes to go in the first half, Simmons and Nora Desrosiers added on the game's first goal; Sharks up 1-0.
To end the first half, Dean showed on paper that they were still better with 5 shots on goal while Simmons had only 2.
To start the second half, Simmons picked up where they left off. First-year Madyson Reed scored off the redirect, catching Gardner off guard. Sharks still led 2-0 with 12:30 left in the 3rd.

A Simmons infraction saw Dean get their first goal of the game by Emily Yazzetti. A beautiful shot that went over Simmons goalie Haley Bright’s head, cutting the lead by 1.
About a minute later saw Alex Wemple put the Sharks up 3-1, a ball that went through Sara Gardner. The Sharks once again extended their lead by 2.
To start the fourth, Junior Emily Yazzetti scored a goal, but the score was waved off after officials ruled that she took the shot from outside the shooting circle. A controversial call in the game as Dean was denied a goal which would’ve been a momentum shifter the Bulldogs needed.
The Bulldogs then pulled Gardner out with around 4 minutes to go, subbing in Sophomore Alexyss Baird as the extra defender for the Bulldogs. About two minutes later, Hailey Brisson scored on an empty net to put the final nail in the coffin, Simmons defeating the Bulldogs 4-1.
