Dean Men's Soccer Draws in First GNAC Matchup Against Colby-Sawyer
On a bright, sunny Saturday afternoon at Longley Athletic Complex, as Dean Men’s Soccer, looking for their first win of the year, took on GNAC rival Colby-Sawyer. The Colby-Sawyer Chargers entered today’s match with a 1-4-1 record.
It was a fast-paced start to the game for both the Chargers and Bulldogs, but it was the Chargers who struck first. Junior Defender Colin Riley-Perec found the back of the net in the 15th minute of play, his 1st goal of the season.
Despite an attack by Dean towards the end, Colby-Sawyer’s defense held on to keep a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

Colby-Sawyer had the advantage in shots throughout the first half, putting pressure on the Bulldogs' keeper, Noah Amaral. No cards for either side in the first half, but Dean committed 7 fouls in the first half.
To start the second half, Dean came out the gate with a shot by Victor Nunez Saravia, which missed wide left and forced a corner for the Bulldogs. About 4 minutes later, Jordan Ramsay crossed it back into the box for Nunez Saravia but just missed and forced a goal kick for the Bulldogs.
In the 53rd minute, Colby Sawyer’s goalkeeper Evan Whalen collided with Dean Forward Ramsay in the box. Whalen received a yellow card for the collision and forced a penalty kick for Dean.
Nate Beturne then equalized the game on a PK, catching Whalen diving to the left, tying the match 1-1 with 38 minutes to go. “I think Jordan did very well there to earn that for me,” Beturne said. “It was a team effort! They helped lift me up by giving me that chance.”

In the 80th minute, Whalen was assessed another yellow for making a save outside the box, his second of the day that forced a red card and a disqualification. Trenton Mikulanis then came into the game but didn’t take long for him to get action as he made a catching save on a free kick.
Despite the chances Dean had in the last 10 minutes, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Dean goes to 0-3-2 on the year while Colby-Sawyer goes to 1-4-2 on the season.
Beturne said after the game that he likes the aggressiveness he has seen from the Bulldogs so far and is looking forward to earning their first win of the season. “Coach Joe [Dincecco] spoke with us at halftime, and he kind of lit a fire under us.” He also acknowledged that the team looks sharper on the field.
The next game for Dean Men’s Soccer is Wednesday against Regis at Longley Athletic Complex. Kickoff is expected at 3:30 p.m.
