The Dean College women’s volleyball team took on Albertus Magnus College in Wednesday’s GNAC matchup. The Falcons ultimately ended up defeating the Bulldogs 3-1.

The Bulldogs came out strong, taking the first set in convincing fashion, 25-21. Sophomore Maddy Seymour, Senior Caitlin Cooper, and Freshman Mia Cote displayed their skillsets in this first set, each getting kills for the Bulldogs.

The Falcons weren't too happy with the result of the first set. Storming in the second set with a quick 10-0 lead, forcing Coach Ledwich to call a timeout. Coach Ledwich said before the game, “We can’t play a full set”. But that was the opposite early for the Bulldogs finishing their first set and then off to a slow start in the second set. The Falcons would continue to do more the same, finishing the second set over the Bulldogs 25-16.

Now all tied at 1 set a piece this match was up for grabs. The third set of this match was a back-and-forth battle throughout. Neither team could go on a run and gain a real advantage in this set, until the Falcons finished on a 3-0 run taking the third set 25-20.

The Bulldogs came out hot in the fourth set, getting out to a 9-2 lead to start what was the last set of this match. Seniors Skylar Raskevitz, Carly Rettberg, and Caitlin Cooper all displaying their veteran leadership as they led the team to a quick start in set three. There was back and forth action again between the Falcons and Bulldogs after the big run by the Bulldogs, but the Falcons come rallying back to win this set again 25-20 winning the match 3-1. With Junior Emma Fallon up front and Senior Majo Pelaez in the backcourt the Falcons looked unstoppable.

The Bulldogs fell to 2-17 (0-10 GNAC), while the Falcons improved to 14-12 (5-6 GNAC).

Another tough loss for the Bulldogs, but the future of this team is very bright. Coach Ledwich said before the game, “Recruiting is going well, some transfers are looking to come through to build on what we already have, and our spring offseason we will be looking to grow." Also adding, “I think we have the talent to be a top GNAC team." So, although the record isn’t exactly what you want to see, it's always good to know the future of this young program is bright.
