FRANKLIN – The Dean College men’s lacrosse team came up short in the 2025 season, falling to the Emmanuel College Saints 14-13 in overtime.

The 2026 season started on Saturday, February 14th as they hosted Anna Maria in a non-conference matchup.

“Winning the league is always a goal of ours… we’ve been close but haven’t been able to get over that hump. One of things we’ve been talking about a lot of stacking one good day on top of another.”

That is how Head Coach Matt Schairer responded when asked about his main goals for the upcoming season.

“We had a core group of starters for the last three years, who have now graduated.”

Coach Schairer was speaking about the group of seniors from the 2025 campaign that accounted for 201 total points, along with losing a lot of key defensive pieces.

“But we have a lot of guys back that have played some significant minutes… What I like about this group is that they are playing hard, and the effort level has been great in practice."

Dean seems to be looking to reload, rather than rebuild. Manny Alvarez-Segee, Kyle Pianka, and Kevin Gardner all return as double digits point scorers. Alvarez-Segee, Shawn Beebe, and Collin Murphy led defensively in terms of turnovers caused. Elijah Beland started in 15 games last season and registered 95 saves.

Although the Bulldogs start with two nonconference games, they will be tested early when it comes to the GNAC. Their first four conference games are Lasell University, Rivier University, St. Joe's College of Maine, and the University of St. Joe's, which had a combined record of 47-24 in 2025.

“Right out of the gate were going to be tested by the best teams in the conference over the last couple years.” said Coach Schairer.

He went on to praise not only the balance on depth of his squad but also spoke to the hunger of the players on the field.

Dean kicked off their season on Saturday, February 14th, against the Anna Maria College Amcats where they came away victorious 20-5. They play home again on Tuesday at 3 PM against Thomas College.
