Boston Legacy FC Falls 5-2 to Angel City FC in First Ever Matchup

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – In its return to Gillette Stadium, Boston Legacy FC drop their matchup against Angel City FC falling 5-2 on Monday night. Boston Legacy continues a four-game skid after being outshot and out possessed on the heels of a five-goal performance from Angel City FC.
Angel City FC (8W-8L-5D) opened the scoring early with a long range shot from outside of the box in the fifth minute. Evelyn Shores sent in the pass off a corner kick and Ally Sentnor converted with a shot past the outstretched arms of Boston Legacy FC (5W-12L-5D) goalie Laurel Ivory. Ivory's start today was her first appearance for the club and her first since the 2025 season with the Kansas City Current.
Boston answered quickly two minutes later with a goal of their own to knot the game at 1-1. Nichelle Prince threaded the ball to Sammy Smith at the top of the box where Smith slid in a long shot, finding the back of the net.
Smith noted, "In practice this week, that was a space we looked for, the little cut back. I had a similar opportunity like that in practice the other day and I didn't shoot, so I just told myself I needed to shoot it next time."

Angel City went ahead once again with a distance strike that found the back of the net after a deflection in the 14th minute. Prisca Chilufya settled the ball before firing a shot through traffic, hitting another player and angling into the goal. Four minutes later, Sveindís Jónsdóttir raced down the sideline, beating her defender and chipping a tough angle shot into the body of Ivory. Off the deflection of Ivory, the ball trickled in, increasing the deficit to 3-1 in just the 18th minute.
After an action packed 20 minutes of game action, both clubs slowed down going into the break.
Two minutes into the second half, Angel City FC nearly found their fourth goal with a cross towards the net, but Ivory dove on the ball for a save before any player could get a touch on it.
Their offensive efforts paid off when Chalufiya got her second goal of the night off her own rebound, earning a brace. It was Angel City's fourth goal of the game and came in the 58th minute after a botched pass gave them possession just outside of Boston's box. Chalufiya on the attack, was first halted by Ivory, but gathered her own rebound and laced a shot into the opposite corner of the net.
In the 65th minute, Angel City continued their offensive attack and racked up one more goal to make it 5-1 in favor of the guests. After three great chances, Maiara Niehues picked up Angel City's final goal of the night, striking from long distance into the top corner of the goal.
The Legacy ended their goal drought in the 88th minute after not scoring for 80 minutes of the match. Aïssata Traoré headed in a corner kick from Sarah Schupansky's delivery. In her debut for Boston Legacy, Schupansky was a noticeable part of the offense, notching an assist.
Despite conceding five, Ivory finished the night with four saves in her debut for Boston Legacy, replacing the injured Casey Murphy. She faced high pressure from Angel City's front line and several one-on-one situations throughout the second half. On the other side, Angelina Anderson finished with two saves and allowed two as well.
After the game, Legacy Head Coach Filipa Patão said, "Right now our biggest problem is how we are not reacting well. It's not a matter of what you are going to do with the ball next, it's how we are defending and making the same mistakes."
Next up, Boston Legacy will have a short week, travelling to the Utah Royals on September 4th at 9:30 pm and Angel City FC will stay on the road to take on Racing Louisville FC on September 5th at 6:30 pm.
