Dean College Men’s Soccer Draws Curry College in 2-2 Thriller at Home

FRANKLIN, MA- The Dean College Bulldogs hosted the Curry College Colonels on Thursday, September 3rd at Longley Athletic Complex for their second game of the season. Kicking off at 3:30PM, each team found the back of the net even times.
Dean College opened scoring 14 minutes into the match with a strike from Sophomore Jordan Ramsey. The goal began with a lob pass from Sophomore Will Chase that connected with Ramsey, who took the shot while surrounded by Curry defenders. The ball was struck with enough power and precision to find the back of the net and put the Bulldogs up early.
“It means a lot to me,” Ramsey spoke on his opening goal after the game “It broke the ice and set the tone... I think this is going to be the first of many goals.”
The Bulldogs doubled their lead in less than 10 minutes when Senior Nate Beturne struck from the top of the box. The play started off a throw in, which bounced around the heads inside the box before an attempt to clear landed at Beturne’s feet. The shot flew straight passed the keeper and landed in the back of the net to make the score 2-0.
The gameplay was even over the next 20 minutes with the scoreline remaining. 41 minutes into the match the referee awarded a yellow card to Curry College’s coach for arguing with the officials. This was the first booking of the match. Dean College found their first card of the match 43 minutes in when First-Year Xavier Young made a tough challenge on a Curry player from behind. The referee awarded a yellow to Young.
The score at halftime was 2-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Ramsey, the first goal scorer of the game, spoke on the chemistry of the team. “I feel very positively about our team chemistry...I think we’ve had a great start.”
The second half started off evenly with both teams making attacking plays from the get-go. Around the 57th minute, Dean College was awarded a set piece not far outside the box. Curry College attempted to clear the ball, but it was picked up by Sophomore Liam Coon who made a thrilling side-kick attempt at the goal that ultimately went wide.

In the 60th minute, Goalkeeper Noah Amaral received a yellow card after making a reckless challenge on a Curry College attacking player in the box, awarding Curry a penalty. Curry College Junior Aiden Watts stepped up to take the shot, that was ultimately successful, making the score 2-1 with Dean College still up.
Another Dean College yellow card was awarded in the 69th minute to Sophomore Ethan Ziegler after a tackle on Curry College sent their attacker down at the top of the box. The freekick was taken by Curry College Senior Bradlee Sorensen, who sent the ball over the net and off target.
The game was back and forth and evenly played for the remainder of the match. Another yellow card was given to Dean College in the 84th minute after Ciaran Phibbs made a low challenge to an opposing player off a throw in.
Curry College equalized the game just a minute later after senior Ryan Koster made a solo run down the pitch and through all the Dean College Defenders. Koster took the shot himself, which ultimately found the back of the net. This would be the final action of the game.
When asked about improvements the team looks to make for the upcoming matches, Ramsey noted that “Staying resilient throughout the entire game,” was an area of focus for the team. “[We] do a lot of running and defending, but in the end, it’s all worth it.”

The Dean College Men’s Soccer Team will travel to Boston on Sunday, Sept. 6th to take on Suffolk University at 1PM. The Curry College Men’s Soccer Team will take on the University of Maine-Presque Isle at home on Sunday, Sept. 6th at 12PM.
