In the Dean Bulldogs season finale, the Regis College Pride would travel to Franklin for a GNAC showdown, with the final score being 86-73 as the Pride spoiled the Bulldogs senior day game. The Bulldogs fell to 7-18, while the Pride improved to 12-13, securing them the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament as they will host #6 Albertus Magnus on Wednesday, February 25th.

After one quarter of play, the Pride led 26-10, going on a 13-0 run during that time. For the Bulldogs, Senior Abigail Lacy and Junior Jordan Ellis were able to get the scoring going early, each with 4 points in the first.

Abigail Lacy, the lone senior of this short Bulldogs roster, was in just her first season with the team, as she previously played at New England College. The senior started and played in every game this season, averaging 35 minutes per game. Lacy averaged 19.9 points per game and became just the fourth player in women’s basketball program history to reach the 1,000-career point mark.

Along with her incredible scoring, Lacy also averaged 7.1 rebounds per game, 1.4 steals per game, and shot 37.5% from the field in her senior season at Dean.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs and Lacy started to get things going by scoring 18 points as a team, and Lacy got 14 of them. Back-to-back threes for Abigail Lacy in the first 2 and a half minutes of the quarter gave the Bulldogs and the home crowd a momentum boost. After the first half, the Pride led 47-28 as their senior guard Jordyn Striggles hit back-to-back threes in the final seconds of the first half.

To start the second half of play, the Bulldogs came out with lots of energy. Starting the third quarter on a 10-2 run. The Bulldogs won the third quarter 22-14, with junior guards Jordan Ellis and Azaria Landry each tallying 6 points in the quarter.

Going into the fourth and final quarter of the Bulldogs season, the score was 61-50 as the Pride continued to lead. A back-and-forth quarter between the Bulldogs and Pride ended with the Pride winning the quarter 25-23.

Lacy had 7 points, and Ellis contributed 6 points in the quarter for the Bulldogs, but for the Pride, they had three players score over 6 points in the fourth quarter, helping secure them a GNAC win.

For the Bulldogs, it’s not the result you wanted, but with such a young roster and coaching staff, and key returners expected back for the Bulldogs, there is a lot of potential for the Dean College Women’s Basketball team to come.
